Kiara

The soul of wood

Kiara is named after a rare aloeswood incense beloved in Japan since the early 500s. The wood typically had no scent until a fungus took root in it. Afterwards the wood smelled so pleasant when it burned that it was sought after by people of influence all over the world.

Kiara is an exploration of how our origins and our life’s path come together to make us who we are. It’s a way to invite the spirit and energy we wish to attract, and to imprint new memories as we make them.

Sachiko Omori Garcia (b. Shimane, Japan) is the founder and sole maker of Kiara.

Working at the intersection of scent, ritual, and material memory, Garcia approaches incense as both functional object and sculptural medium. Her practice draws from Japanese craft traditions and from lived experience across geographies.

Each Kiara offering is designed and formed by hand. Production follows solar and lunar cycles, situating each release within a specific temporal moment.

For Garcia, incense is not fragrance alone. It is atmosphere — an activation of space that completes itself in use.

Japanese Craft

Kiara products and packaging are a continuation of Japanese craft. Handmade artisan objects like the Washi paper and Hanko stamps used in the packaging come from makers whose methods predate homogenous machines. In keeping with this spirit, the incense is made by hand. Where possible, we harvest the ingredients ourselves.

日本の工芸

キアラ製品とパッケージは、日本の工芸の伝統を受け継いでいます。包装に使われる和紙や判子のような手作りの工芸品は、機械化される以前の技法を持つ職人たちから生まれたものです。この精神を守りながら、線香も手作りで作られています。可能な限り、私たち自身で原料を収穫しています。

Hanko Stamp

The Hanko Stamp is used like a signature to certify that a message came from a particular person. Our stamp was made by a 3rd generation Hanko stamp maker in Tokyo. When you see our seal stamped on Kiara products, it means we made them with care and attention and are happy for them to become a part of your life.

判子

判子は、特定の人物からのメッセージであることを証明するために署名のように使用されます。私たちの判子は、東京の3代目判子職人によって作られました。キアラ製品にこの印が押されているのを見たとき、それは私たちが心を込めて注意深く作ったものであり、それがあなたの生活の一部となることを喜んでいる証です。

Washi Paper

Washi paper has been made by hand in Japan since the 600s. It’s made through a process that begins with cultivating and harvesting the raw materials (a mixture of three wood fibers with desirable properties) and requires careful precision and deep expertise from multiple artisans along the way. The end result is some of the finest paper produced anywhere by either people or machines.

Ours comes from Sekishuwashi in the Shimane region where Kiara founder Sachiko Garcia is from. Current-day makers supply the paper for our packaging and envelopes using traditional methods perfected for over a thousand years.

和紙

和紙は600年代から日本で手作りされています。原材料（理想的な特性を持つ3つの木の繊維の混合物）の栽培と収穫から始まり、途中で複数の職人の細心の注意と深い専門知識を必要とする工程を経て作られます。その結果、人や機械によって作られる中で最も上質な紙の一つが生まれます。

私たちの和紙は、キアラの創設者サチコ・ガルシアの出身地である島根県の石州和紙から取り寄せています。現代の職人たちは、千年以上にわたって完成された伝統的な方法を用いて、私たちのパッケージや封筒のための紙を供給しています。
